INSTEON is a powerful, home-control networking technology that will enhance the comfort, safety, convenience and value of your home. The INSTEON Access Point (& Wireless Phase Coupler) is dual-band (RF + power line) device which is the most important part of the INSTEON network. When used in pairs, Access Points will couple the electrical phases across common two-phase wiring systems, allowing INSTEON commands to freely travel to all locations in your home.
Dual-band INSTEON products allow RF-only INSTEON devices to send (and receive) commands to (and from) power line-only INSTEON devices as well as repeat the commands to other RF-only devices. While at least one (1) dual-band INSTEON product is required when using an RF-only INSTEON device, at least two (2) dual-band INSTEON products are recommended to ensure reliable communication across common two-phase home wiring systems. For larger applications, it is recommended to install at least one dual-band INSTEON product for each 750 - 1,000 square feet.
- Bridges RF-only INSTEON devices with power line-only INSTEON devices
- Uses 915MHz band for fast, reliable communication
The INSTEON Access Point (& Wireless Phase Coupler) creates your dual-mesh INSTEON network by simultaneously transmitting and receiving INSTEON commands across both radio frequency and your home's existing wiring. When used as a pair, the Access Points also couple the two different electrical phases of your home. Each Access Point also repeats INSTEON commands, adding to the network's robust reliability.
Please Note: Access Points repeat INSTEON signals and not X10.
Control All of Your Lights From Your Couch
Using a INSTEON RemoteLinc Wireless Remote Control (sold separately), the first wireless remote to send INSTEON commands to your lighting and appliances to control them remotely, you'll be able to turn all INSTEON-compatible devices in your home on and off at the press of a button. The Access Point bridges the RemoteLinc's RF signals to your home's power line, delivering power and scene commands to INSTEON-compatible devices throughout the house.
White status LED
The LED is used initially to help set up your network. After the initial setup, the white LED will flicker as it sends or receives INSTEON signals, making it easy to see when there is traffic traveling through your INSTEON network.
Technical Note for use in Commercial or Large Residential Building
INSTEON has only officially been tested in a 2-phase residential environment, but has been known to work in many 3-phase systems, where 3 Access Points are used (one on each phase). However, due to the potential complexity of its troubleshooting, Smarthome Technical Support is unable to support INSTEON in 3-phase environments.
